What you need to know

  • Financial assistance is available for workers required to quarantine or isolate
  • Support is available for visa holders unable to access other payments
  • Food and grocery delivery services are available

The disability workforce is vital for the ACT and it is important that people who work in disability services are aware of financial and other support available right now.

There is support available for workers who are not allowed to provide disability, or other services, because they have suspected COVID-19 symptoms, are waiting for test results or are needing to isolate or quarantine.

Disability workers in quarantine are not until allowed to go back to work until advised by ACT Health that they can come out of quarantine.

People confirmed with COVID-19 must stay at home. Support is available to help ensure that is possible. Information is available at COVID19.act.gov.au or by calling the COVID-19 Helpline on (02) 6207 7244 from 8am to 8pm daily.

Those in isolation while awaiting the results of a COVID-19 test, may be eligible for the $270 COVID-19 Test Hardship Isolation Payment from the ACT Government.

People unable to earn an income because they must isolate, quarantine or care for someone with COVID-19, may be able to access the $1500 Pandemic Leave Disaster Payment from the Australian Government.

Alternative supports are also available for people on visas unable to access the above payments. The Red Cross ACT Migration Support Program Hub on (02) 6234 7695 can assist.

Food or grocery delivery services are also available for people without the assistance of friends or family. A list of stores offering this service can be found on the access help page of covid19.act.gov.au

People experiencing hardship who cannot afford food and essential items during the lockdown can also seek assistance through Volunteering ACT on 1800 431 133, Monday to Friday between 9am and 5pm.
