NDS, supported by Primary Health Tasmania, present a free workshop on Tuesday 27 February in Launceston on improving health outcomes for Tasmanian adults with intellectual disability.

Led by Professor Nick Lennox, the workshop discusses the Comprehensive Health Assessment Program (CHAP) and how it can help workers support people with a disability to overcome barriers to annual health checks and improve their health.

The NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission recommends regular comprehensive health assessments for people with disability. It improves detection of health needs, enables management of those needs, and significantly reduces health risks and poor health outcomes.

Disability providers are required to monitor participant health, safety and wellbeing. They are also required to support participants to maintain their health and get appropriate health services.

The CHAP tool supports these requirements.

Professor Lennox brings to this workshop on CHAP his clinical expertise and passion for improving the health and health care of people with developmental disability. He will share with disability workers how they can use the CHAP to ensure annual health assessments with clinicians are effective. The program can also prevent health problems from emerging while supporting the management of existing needs.

Professor Nick Lennox has provided physical and mental healthcare to adults with developmental disability for 28 years in Melbourne and Brisbane. He has also led innovations in education and applied research, including  appointment as the Director of the Queensland Centre for Intellectual and Developmental Disability (QCIDD) at the University of Queensland. This included three complex randomised controlled trials of CHAP.

The workshop is free and proudly supported by National Disability Services and Primary Health Tasmania.
