DRC hearing looks at preparation, isolation and access to information
19/08/2020
On the second day of the COVID-19 hearing, themes of preparation, isolation, loneliness and communication difficulties dominated the evidence.
The day began with a consideration of emergency preparedness plans for people with disability. Associate Professor Michelle Villeneuve from the University of Sydney gave evidence which noted the responsibility of multiple stakeholders in disaster response. She suggested that people with disability, service providers, advocacy organisations and government each have a role. The COVID-19 Planning Resource for People with Disability, developed in collaboration with the Department of Health, may be useful to providers in considering their role.
