Risk Management Systems improve safety and quality of care. This workshop will demonstrate the components of a risk management system and how to use it to monitor risk and demonstrate accountability for effective clinical governance to meet quality standards and ensure high-quality care.

Course outcomes:

  • Know the expected risk management documentation to have in place
  • Gain ideas for checking if your service has a culture of risk awareness and accountability
  • Learn the best practice risk management processes that comply with the International Standard for risk management and quality standards for aged and disability services
  • Understand the expected processes for risk escalation, communication and reporting
  • Discover ways to use Risk Registers to enable effective clinical governance
  • Gain awareness of clinical governance accountabilities for risk management decision making and the role of committees
  • Gain case study practice in organisational risk management decision making
This workshop is in partnership with Preventing Harm Initiative and facilitated by Michele Moreau.

Developer of the FACT documentation method, Michele is experienced in the implementation of clinical governance to achieve excellence in care delivery, quality standard compliance and supportive work environments for staff. She advises on clinical governance internationally and promotes the use of lean, human factor informed systems to simplify the achievement of quality outcomes.

Her experience includes leading the risk management service for tertiary hospitals, the oversight of medico-legal cases, complaints systems, root cause analyses, open disclosure, credentialing processes, staff performance issues and clinical governance committees.

Who should attend?

NDS recommends that Senior managers, operational managers and Risk and Quality managers within disability service organisations are most suited to attend.
