Nominations close soon for the inaugural National Disability Awards, which recognise the extraordinary contributions of individuals, groups and organisations to create an inclusive Australia that values people with disability.   

Until Monday 31 July, disability service providers and people with disability and their families can nominate outstanding staff, teams and organisations who demonstrate excellence, passion, vision and commitment to supporting people with disability.   

Awards will be presented in eight categories:   

  • Excellence in Service Quality    
    This award recognises the significant contribution of a disability sector organisation in providing quality supports, services and opportunities for people with disability, whether through building capacity, developing skills to exercise choice and control, or co-designing services.  
  • Excellence in Innovation   
    This award recognises a disability sector organisation that has developed new or different approaches, especially evidence-based solutions to improve or add value to the lives of people with disability.  
  • Excellence in Disability Support Work 
    This individual or team award recognises the significant contribution of disability support workers to providing supports, services and opportunities that meet the needs of people with disability and that allow them to live the life they choose, especially people with complex support needs.  
  • Excellence in Allied Health   
    This individual or team award recognises the outstanding contribution and passion to clinical excellence, leadership and education of Allied Health professionals and therapy assistants working in the disability sector. 
  • Excellence in Regional and Remote Support   
    This award recognises an individual or team making a significant contribution to quality services, supports and opportunities to people with disability living in regional or remote regions of Australia.  
  • Outstanding Leader of the Year Inclusive Communities Award   
    Nominees for this individual award will be employed in a disability sector organisation and demonstrate exceptional guidance, vision, integrity, decision-making, courage and leadership. They will build the confidence and competency of the people around them and influence others to provide innovative and high-quality support to people with disability.   
  • Inclusive Communities Award   
    This award acknowledges the outstanding achievements of businesses and organisations who are committed to encouraging, welcoming and supporting people with disability in their workplace, business and community.  
  • Media Award   
    This award celebrates media coverage that generates impact, creates awareness of disability, promotes inclusion in a contemporary way and highlights the value of the work of disability service providers.

Nominations for the eight categories close at 5:00pm AEST on Monday 31 July and winners will be announced at the NDS CEOs’ meeting in December.
