The 2023 NDIS Review highlighted the need to address critical pricing issues that are impacting the disability sector, leaving the sector at risk of market failure. One sector that has benefitted greatly from independent pricing is the Health and Aged Care sector.

Established in 2011, the Independent Health and Aged Care Pricing Authority (IHACPA) was initially tasked with promoting improved efficiency in, and access to, public hospital services by developing and implementing robust systems to support activity-based funding for those services.

In 2022 the scope of the Authority was expanded to provide advice about certain aged care pricing and costing matters. With the NDIS Review recommending that responsibility for providing advice on NDIS pricing be transitioned to IHACPA, our next Essential Conversation webinar will focus on the challenges and opportunities of independent pricing.

To help us unpack this important topic, we hear from Tom Symondson, CEO, Aged and Community Care Providers Association, and Dr Chris Atmore, Policy and Advocacy Manager, Allied Health Professions Australia about the experience in the health and aged care.

NDS CEO Laurie Leigh will then join the discussion to explore what lies ahead for independent pricing in the disability sector and what opportunities may arise from upcoming changes.
