What you need to know

  • Workers currently meeting Victorian transitional requirements will now have until 31 January to apply for their NDIS Check
  • Workers who have not applied for an NDIS check by 31 Jan 2022 will not be able to continue in a risk assessed role
  • Formal confirmation of the extension will come from the NDIS Commission

After vigorous campaigning on behalf of members, NDS is pleased to announce a six month extension of transitional arrangements for NDIS Checks in Victoria is set to be confirmed by the NDIS Commission.

We understand the Victorian Government is currently engaged with the Commission regarding final details of the extension to 31 January 2022, and formal confirmation will be issued by the NDIS Commission.

This extension will mean that workers who do not have a Working with Children Check (WWCC) but have a DWES Check and a Police Check will now have until 31 January 2022 to apply for an NDIS Check. These workers will not be able to continue in a risk assessed role after this new deadline if they have not applied for a check.

Workers with a WWCC do not need an NDIS Check until their WWCC expires.

NDS advocated strongly for an extension to the previous deadline given the significant obstacles to application posed by technological issues, COVID-19 lockdown restrictions and delays with Births, Deaths and Marriages.

We acknowledge the NDIS Worker Screening process has caused significant workforce issues for many organisations in our sector, with application processing delays and technological limitations leading to recruitment bottlenecks and stress for workers and organisations across Victoria.

Assistance is still available for anyone experiencing difficulties when applying for an NDIS Check. Please send any questions or names for application prioritisation to submit enquiry/feedback
