NDS members are encouraged to provide feedback on Victoria’s Draft 30 Year Infrastructure Strategy which has been released for community consultation.  The draft Strategy’s 95 recommendations aim to:

Unfortunately, the draft Strategy does not emphasise the importance of accessibility in the planning and construction of major new buildings in Victoria. 

The document accepts that infrastructure has the capacity to improve social equity and reduce social disadvantage, but does not detail the accessibility requirements that would be needed to achieve this.  Of particular relevance is the aim to renew at least half of the older low-rise apartments and dwellings that operate as social housing, without noting that the buildings be made accessible to people with disability.
