Karni Liddell has joined the amazing line-up of speakers at the 2022 NSW Virtual Conference ‘Beyond the bounds: the future of disability service provision’, to be held virtually on 6 April.Karni is a former world record holder, Paralympic swimmer, speaker, TV presenter, 'mama', and clinical social worker.

She was born with a neuromuscular wasting disease and her parents were told that their first-born child wouldn’t walk, crawl or live past her teenage years. She broke her first World Record at the age of 14 and went on to win Paralympic medals at every Paralympics she competed at.

Karni was the Patron of the International Day of People with a Disability and was awarded the Pride of Australia medal. She was granted the Bond University Alumni Community Achievement Award (2021); won the Qld Teacher and Trainer of the Year (2015); and was awarded the Alumni of the Year award for the faculty of health at the Queensland University of Technology (QUT).In addition to her keynote presentation during the conference, Karni will present a separate workshop on Enhancing employment opportunities for people with disabilities on 8 April.The NSW conference is one of the highlights of the NSW event calendar each year. The conference aims to explore the questions:

  • What does it really mean to have the experience of a participant at the forefront of everything?
  • How will the disability customer experience in 2022 and beyond be created, measured, and sustained?
  • How will we address some of the barriers to inclusion for people with disabilities in NSW?
  • How will we move beyond protecting human rights to enabling human rights for people with disabilities?
