The Workforce Development Project sits within the Tasmanian Government Community Services Industry Plan 2021-2031 strategic Priority number 2: Workforce Development and Training.

The Workforce Development Project is in response to a projected shortage of 4,000 workers that will be required by 2024, across the Community Services Industry in Tasmania.

 TasCOSS are the administrators of the project and have partnered with:

  • Disability sector National Disability Services Tasmania
  • Early Childhood Sector – Early Childhood Australia (TAS Branch)
  • While the Aged Care Sector and Social Services sit with TasCOSS
  • Project Manager is Claudia Butler TasCOSS

As an industry we need to ensure that we have the skilled and diverse workforce necessary for the delivery of flexible and responsive services that achieve positive client outcomes.

The project aim in the next two years will be focused on four key areas:

  • Recruitment and Awareness campaign – designing and delivering a recruitment and awareness campaign aimed at shaping and raising the perception of the industry and attracting and retaining workers. Led by Amanda Bergmann
  • Identifying Training and Development needs – Defining and identifying current and future training and development needs, career pathways and informing future programs and funding. Led by Kerry Hanson
  • Program of Research – Defining and driving a program of research to identify future industry demands, trends and needs, including barriers and opportunities to employment. Led by Dr Lauren McGraw and Susan Howard
  • Building organisational capability and capacity – Utilising a self-assessment tool organisations can identify gaps in recruitment systems and practices. Led by Mary Langdon
