Just before Easter, Minister Shorten tabled the National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Getting the NDIS Back on Track No. 1) Bill 2024 in parliament. This is the first tranche of legislative reforms to enable the NDIS Review recommendations. Many of the changes enabled in the Bill will occur through the creation of new NDIS Rules or legislative instruments. Most of these require agreement by states and territories or consultation with key stakeholders before they can be enacted.

The Bill has been referred to the Community Affairs Legislation Committee for inquiry and report by 20 June. The committee is seeking submissions on the Bill by 26 April. DSS have published FAQs, fact sheets, summaries and easy-read resources to help people making a submission. Members can subscribe on the DSS webpage to regular updates on NDIS Reforms.
