18/01/2023

The NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission has released its long-awaited Own Motion Inquiry into aspects of supported accommodation in the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).

The purpose of the inquiry was to identify problem issues in supported accommodation and ask: what’s causing those issues? what models of best practice might eliminate or address them? and how can accommodation providers deliver higher standards of support?

The inquiry examined over 7000 reportable incidences and complaints (made up of around 6260 reportable incidents and 850 complaints) made to the Commission about supported accommodation services from seven of the largest providers over a four-year period (July 2018 to September 2022). The inquiry did not look at rates of complaints received by the providers themselves. NDS would like to acknowledge the work of providers in responding to the Commission to improve their systems.
