Queensland is one of Australia’s most at-risk states for natural disasters and severe weather events. How people with disability and broader Queensland communities recover from these events depends heavily on the quality of preparation, response and recovery planning.

The Collaborating for Inclusion project has released the Disability Inclusive Disaster Risk Reduction (DIDRR) Framework and Toolkit. This resource will facilitate greater inclusion by supporting people with disability to take an active part in disaster preparation, response and recovery.

Queensland disability providers have always responded to people’s needs in times of disaster. The toolkit will support this work and encourage key stakeholders to co-design inclusive solutions that increase the resilience of people with disability to disaster.

NDS encourages all disability service providers to be active participants in local disaster planning as part of their support of people with disability.

NDS continues to contribute to this project via the multi-stakeholder advisory committee. We’re keen to hear your feedback regarding the Framework and Toolkit. Please provide feedback to NDS’s Queensland Manager Ian Montague at  submit enquiry/feedback.
