CEO Update: Minister Shorten outlines key policy directions for NDIS reform

A message from NDS CEO, Laurie Leigh

21/04/2023

On Tuesday I was a guest at the Gallagher Table for Minister Shorten’s National Press Club address. I’m sure anyone who saw the event will agree that Minister Shorten remains a passionate advocate for the NDIS and people with disability, and that was very much on display this week.

The Minister outlined six policy directions for systemic reform to the NDIS:

NDS is on the record welcoming the government’s commitment and our support for the broad policy directions outlined. As always, the devil will be in the detail about what’s in scope and how reforms are both designed and implemented. I am meeting with the Minister in a couple of weeks before the May Federal Budget and will be seeking more information from him then about next steps, particularly on the flagged review of SIL and the reference in his speech to measuring outcomes in service provision. Stay tuned.
