Mental Health Recognition and Response for NDIS Support Workers

Five women in an office setting.
Location: Victoria
Date: 18/03/2021 to 7/06/2021

Mental Health Recognition and Response for NDIS Support Workers is a one day workshop held in person and developed by NDS and Linda Rowley Consulting.

For many Australians with a disability, the global COVID-19 pandemic has worsened existing issues and created a new set of challenges, particularly around mental health. 'Mental Health Recognition and Response for NDIS Support Workers' is a 6.5 hour workshop developed by NDS and Linda Rowley Consulting. This non-accredited training aims to build the understanding and capabilities of disability support workers to provide safe, quality and responsive support to NDIS participants with mental illness and/or psychosocial disability.

On completion of this workshop, participants will have developed their understanding and practical skills to:

  • Identify the signs and symptoms of common mental health problems, including anxiety, depression, substance use and psychosis.
  • Recognise and appropriately respond to non-suicidal and suicidal self-injury
  • Respond in a crisis situation
  • Work with their organisation to determine what to report and when to do so.

Who should attend?

NDS suggests that disability support workers, particularly those new to the sector and with limited experience in mental health and psychosocial disability, attend this training.

Thanks to the Victorian Government's funding these workshops are able to be delivered free of charge, with a $50 subsidy available to organisations for each of their disability support workers who attend the training.
