RC releases issues paper on violence and abuse in homes and accommodation

Reads: Royal Commission update

3/12/2020

The Disability Royal Commission has released an issues paper on violence and abuse of people with disability in their homes.

The paper covers private homes, group homes and other specialist disability accommodation, out-of-home care, boarding houses and shelters – and whether any of these settings may make people more vulnerable to violence and abuse.

The Royal Commission is interested in what puts people with disability at risk of violence and abuse where they live, and examples of good practice in preventing and responding to violence and abuse in homes. The paper also asks about barriers to seeking help once people with disability have experienced violence and abuse in homes, and gaps in safeguards for people using disability services.
