RC interrogates Government vaccination rollout
17/05/2021
NDS CEO David Moody represented membersâ views to the Royal Commission at todayâs hearing on the Australian Government's COVID-19 vaccine rollout.
Evidence focused on the lack of information available to the sector and people with disability, as well as the Governmentâs unfortunate decision to prioritise aged care, discovered during Senate Estimates and not advised to the sector.
Mr Moody took the opportunity to emphasise the need for public education campaigns to encourage disability worker take-up, citing research from Melbourne University regarding disability workersâ reluctance to get vaccinated. He also referred to a letter received from Minister Reynolds last Friday which noted the Department of Health would begin engaging with providers three weeks prior to visiting residential services to vaccinate residents and workers.
