Tasmanian Allied Health Disability Workforce Project
NDS in Tasmania received NDIS Sector Development Funding from the Tasmanian Department of Health and Human Services to develop and implement strategies to increase the supply, utilisation and capability of the allied health and support workforce in regional, rural and remote areas of the state. Extending from this, it is hoped that people with disability and developmental delay with NDIS plans in regional, rural and remote Tasmania will have access to adequate and relevant therapy supports in order to achieve their goals.
The project had four parts:- Part 1: Define the existing workforce
- Part 2: Forecast the supply mix of allied health professionals at full scheme
- Part 3: Develop an allied health disability workforce strategy and action plan
- Part 4: Implement priority strategies:
The project commenced in August 2017 and is currently funded to the end of June 2018. Key resources and reports produced by the project have been made available on this page.

Positive Behaviour Support WorkshopsThree regional workshops on positive behaviour supports (PBS) were delivered as part of a priority strategy from the Tasmanian Allied Health Disability Workforce project:
- Implement strategies to skill the allied health workforce in positive behaviour supports in order to reduce and eliminate restrictive interventions

PBS Workshop ReportNDIS Allied Health Business WorkshopThis workshop aimed to strengthen the business capability of current and future Tasmanian NDIS registered allied health professionals, so that they may work more effectively in the context of the NDIS.
The training was informed by the Workforce Strategy and Action Plan (action area 1.1.D, see full document for details).
The report provides an overview of the successful training initiative and future recommendations.
NDIS Business Workshop ReportClinicians Working in the NDIS NetworkThe Clinicians Working in the NDIS (CWIN) regional network aims to build the capability of the allied health workforce by:
1. Strengthening local connections between current and future Tasmanian National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) registered allied health professionals and associated work roles
2. Providing a conduit for information sharing and support to strengthen work practices within the context of the NDIS
This pilot regional network event series was implemented to trial the CWIN network, and was informed by the Workforce Strategy and Action Plan (action area 3.1.A, see full document for details).The report provides an overview of the successful pilot event series, and future network recommendations and plans.
CWIN Network ReportTelepracticeThis pre-recorded webinar provides introductory and practical advice to allied health professionals on the use of telepractice to deliver therapy services for people with disability and developmental delay.
This initiative was informed by the Workforce Strategy and Action Plan (action area 2.3.A, see full document for details).
This webinar is delivered by Therapy Connect, an occupational therapy and speech pathology private practice delivering all therapy supports via telepractice.

Engagement FindingsA report on the Introduction to Allied Health skill set training model and evaluation findings is coming soon.
This skill set training commenced in May and will run to November 2018. It was developed and implemented as part of a priority strategy from the Tasmanian Allied Health Disability Workforce project:
- Influence the use of allied health assistants in NDIS plans & facilitate the establishment of an allied health assistant training model
