Quality and Safeguarding for Victorian Providers

National Disability Services is supporting Victorian service providers to transition to the NDIS Quality and Safeguarding framework, due to take effect in Victoria on the 1st July 2019.
A range of activities are taking place including regular News updates, a Community of Practice, Quality and Safeguarding forums and workshops, webcasts and podcasts.

NDS has developed a series of podcasts to talk about the changes for Victorian service providers under the new national quality and safeguarding arrangements. The podcasts are available on Itunes (apple) and Wooshka (android users). Topics include:
1) Quality and Safeguards arrangements under the new NDIS Commission
Victorian State Manager David Moody speaks to Fiona Still and Dave Relf about the new quality and safeguarding arrangements that will apply to Victorian service providers from the 1st of July 2018.

2) What do people who use disability services need to know about the changes coming under the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Framework?
Dave Relf, Victorian Manager, Quality and Safeguards, speaks to Peter Johnstone, NDIS participant and Eva Sifis from Voice At The Table about what service providers need to consider in relation to people who use their services, including informing people of the changes and ensuring that people with disability are involved in meetings and decision making processes.

3) Voice at the Table
Dave Relf, Victorian Manager, Quality and Safeguards, speaks to Eva Sifis and Cameron Bloomfield from Voice at the Table. Voice at The Table (VATT), a project of the Self-Advocacy Resource Unit (SARU), aims to increase the number of people with cognitive disabilities sitting on boards, committees and advisory groups within government, service providers, community and mainstream organisations at a local, state and national level.

4) Transitional Arrangements for Victorian Service Providers
Dave Relf, Victorian Manager, Quality and Safeguards, and Fiona Still, NDIS Sector Transition Manager at NDS talk about transitional arrangements for Victorian service providers in relation to:

5) What are Service Providers doing to prepare?

They provide useful perspectives from organisations of varying sizes, including an organisation that operates across a number of states.

Dave Relf, Victorian Manager, Quality and Safeguards, speaks to Victorian Disability Services Commissioner Arthur Rogers about the role of the Disability Services Commissioner and the changes to complaints processes that will come into effect from the 1st of July.

NDS Helpdesk
The NDIS Helpdesk is available to NDS members and Victorian service providers to respond to questions about quality and safeguarding and other NDIS-related questions
Zero Tolerance
NDS is committed to supporting service providers through the Zero Tolerance initiative; a national, evidence-based framework to guide good practice and reinforce that abuse, neglect and violence are not OK.
The Zero Tolerance framework outlines actions for an organisation-wide human rights based approach,
A range of free and engaging resources have been developed to support the implementation of the framework. This includes including information for CEOs and boards, HR and management, supervisors and direct support staff.
