Who is this for?

Disability support workers, SILs, CEOs and senior leaders, frontline workers, group homes and NDIS staff in Victoria. 

About these resources

The Department of Families Fairness and Housing (DFFH) has supported the development of three new workforce resources which provide advice/training to support people working with Victorians who have a disability.

The resources were developed in response to system-wide recommendations issued by the Disability Services Commissioner and include:

  • Falls prevention – a practice manual 
  • Safe and enjoyable mealtimes  Training modules to support NDIS participants with swallowing difficulties
  • Deteriorating health – a poster for disability group homes 

In collaboration with NDS, The Department of Families Fairness and Housing (DFFH) has developed three podcast episodes on these topics, with accompanying videos.

The podcast episodes feature key experts including Professor Prue Morgan, Head of Physiotherapy at Monash University, Reece Adams, Head of the Centre for Disability Health, and Professor Bronwyn Hemsley, Head of Speech Pathology at the University of Technology Sydney, who discuss the resource topics.

The podcast series was created to support the existing resources and provide an opportunity for people to learn more about the topics.

Identifying and responding to deteriorating health in residential disability settings

Reece Adams, Head of the Centre for Developmental Disability Health at Monash Health, speaks to Disability Sector Consultant Heather McMinn from National Disability Services about deteriorating health in disability care settings, what disability workers should look for and how they can respond.
