I need to know this because:
  • The deadline for community services providers to register with the Portable Long Services Authority (the Authority) is 30 September 2019.
  • NDS members are reminded to check if they need to register by 30 September for the new Portable Long Service Scheme (the Scheme).
  • The first quarterly return for the July – September 2019 period, must be lodged by 31 October.
  • Due to demand, NDS will now be hosting an additional disability-specific information session with the Authority for disability service providers.

The deadline for community services providers to register with the Portable Long Services Authority (the Authority) is just around the corner.

NDS members are reminded to check if they need to register by 30 September for the new Portable Long Service Scheme (the Scheme). Whilst NDIS-funded activity has been excluded from the Scheme until 1 January 2020, employers with workers undertaking ‘community services work’, as defined by the Act, may need to register now in order to make the first quarterly contribution for any workers within their organisations who are predominantly undertaking community services work.

For workers who are predominantly NDIS-funded, quarterly contributions can be made from 1 January 2020.

You can call the Portable Long Service Authority for further guidance around these determinations on 1800 517 158.

If you are an Employer as defined by the Long Service Benefits Portability Act 2018, you are required to register and comply with the law. Registration can be undertaken online.

Quarterly reporting begins from 1 to 31 October (reporting on activity in July, August and September). The first quarterly return for the July to September 2019 period must be lodged by 31 October. If you believe that you won’t be able to meet this due date, please contact the Authority as soon as possible to request an extension. If your extension is approved, you will be advised of your new confirmed due date for lodgement.

Please note: The Portable Long Service Authority has a website and helpline (1800 517 158). In determining whether they and their employees are covered by the Scheme, providers are encouraged to contact the Authority, as well as consult the legislation and regulations.
