<p>NDS has been active in leading sector responses to issues of abuse, neglect and violence through the Zero Tolerance initiative. Zero Tolerance aims to provide an evidence-based, nationally applicable and contemporary approach to preventing and responding to abuse of people with disability. The aim is to assist service providers to develop positive organisational cultures and practices and robust safeguarding mechanisms relevant to the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).</p><p>The initiative has produced resources to assist organisations to update their processes and practices for supporting people with disability. Resources exist for specific elements of preventing and responding to abuse and neglect. The latest resource on&nbsp;<a href="http://nds.org.au/asset/view_document/979324997">supervision and safety</a>&nbsp;builds on the previous practice advice sheet on&nbsp;<a href="http://nds.org.au/asset/view_document/979324718">safer recruitment and screening</a>.</p><p>NDS has also been working with the&nbsp;<a href="http://www.childabuseroyalcommission.gov.au/">Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse</a>&nbsp;to support their efforts to address the needs of people with disability. Following their report on&nbsp;<a href="http://www.childabuseroyalcommission.gov.au/policy-and-research/working-with-children-checks.aspx">Working with Children Checks</a>, the Royal Commission continues to release research and findings including their&nbsp;<a href="http://www.childabuseroyalcommission.gov.au/policy-and-research/redress">final report on redress</a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href="http://www.childabuseroyalcommission.gov.au/media-centre/media-releases/2015-10/research-report-released-on-understanding-failure">Hear no evil, see no evil</a>, which furthers understanding on identifying and reporting abuse.</p><p>An&nbsp;<a href="http://rcsupport.pwd.org.au/advocacy-support.html">Advocate Toolkit</a>&nbsp;has also been produced by People with Disability Australia to assist people with disability to understand and engage with the work of the Commission. The toolkit contains information for staff on trauma and positive relationships and is a useful resource for providers supporting people to engage with the Royal Commission. </p><p>NDS is committed to supporting providers to promote the rights of people with disability who use services and we encourage all organisations that are concerned about the need for a proactive, consistent approach to preventing violence, abuse and neglect to utilise the range of available resources made available through the&nbsp;<a href="http://www.nds.org.au/projects/article/194">Zero Tolerance initiative</a>.</p>
