I need to know this because:
  • NDS is calling for the Royal Commission into Victoria’s Mental Health System to schedule dedicated accessible hearings for people with disability
  • NDS has made a number of recommendations to the Royal Commission
  • The Royal Commission will start to publish formal submissions online in the coming months
  • The Royal Commission's public hearings are running from 2 to 26 July, with details available on their website

National Disability Services (NDS), together with other peak and advocacy bodies, is calling for the Royal Commission into Victoria’s Mental Health System to schedule dedicated accessible hearings for people with disability.

People with disability are at greater risk of experiencing poor mental health than people without disability with 40-70% of autistic people and 20 – 40% of people with intellectual disability experiencing one or more co-occurring mental health conditions. Specific hearings for a range of other cohorts have scheduled.
