WA Premier Mark McGowan has announced the State’s hard border will be eased at 12.01am on Saturday 5 February 2022 when WA is expected to achieve a 90 per cent double vaccination rate for those aged over 12 years of age.

The announcement comes as WA achieves an 80 per cent double dose vaccination rate and is in line with the WA Safe Transition Plan outlined last month.

While controlled borders will ease for international and interstate arrivals allowing for quarantine-free travel, there will still be testing and vaccination requirements on travellers.

Some areas, including the Pilbara, Kimberley, and Goldfields are below the targeted vaccination rate. In order to protect these vulnerable communities, temporary enhanced public health measures may be introduced if these areas do not meet the double dose 80 per cent target by 5 February.

In addition, some public health measures will be re-introduced to minimise the expected impact of COVID-19 when it arrives in the community after 5 February.

These include:

• Mask wearing will be required in residential disability care facilities, residential aged care facilities, hospitals, custodial correction facilities, public transport, taxis, ride-shares, airports and flights
• Entry will still be restricted to remote Aboriginal communities where necessary
