In keeping with the UN Convention on Rights of Persons with Disabilities, people with disability should be at the centre of planning and implementation of emergency responses.

Currently, Australia has no nationally consistent emergency management standards that ensure access to disability-specific and disability-responsive support before, during, and after emergencies. Individualised planning is key to knowing the connections, equipment, support needs, and actions necessary for each person receiving support.
