The Minister for Disability Services, the Hon. Stephen Dawson MLC, has established a statewide NDIS Transition Governance Advisory Group. The Advisory Group will carefully manage NDIS transition to maximise outcomes for people with disability in Western Australia and ensure the significant advances in service design and delivery in WA are maintained and positively influence the national scheme. Alongside a range of advocacy and representative organisations including people with disability, the following sector representatives have been appointed by the Minister:
The Minister for Disability Services said, "The NDIS is a major transformation to the way services are provided to people with disability and their families, that also represents a significant social and economic reform for all Western Australians.""The NDIS experiences in states outside of WA have been both positive and negative and will influence the way services are delivered in WA. It is vital that we learn from the lessons of other states and ensure that the positive gains we have made in WA are retained and incorporated into the national scheme design."The Advisory Group will meet quarterly, commencing in August, and will provide a forum for people disability and other key stakeholders including representatives from disability peak bodies, service providers and trade unions to work closely with the Minister on the implementation of the NDIS.
