Released yearly, the Victorian Skills Plan gives evidence and sums up workforce trends, challenges and opportunities across Victoria. The 2023–24 Plan covers the key priorities for skills responses, with a skills forecast until 2026 for more than 350 occupations.

NDS welcomes the recognition of the care workforce in this latest plan. The plan states: “out of all industries, the care economy in Victoria employs the most workers and has the highest proportion of women.” It points out that care economy workers account for around 15 per cent of Victoria's workforce and, over the next three years, will account for almost one quarter of new workers. Those 83,000 new workers by 2026 are the highest expected for any Victorian industry. Within the care workforce, the plan recognises that aged and disability carers are among the five jobs most in demand.
