Vic’s big spending budget includes some disability specific initiatives
24/11/2020
The Victorian Government has delivered a big spending budget focused on jobs and multiple initiatives designed to support economic recovery and its social objectives.
Aside from the continuing investment in the NDIS of $2.5 billion per annum, there are several disability-specific initiatives, and a number of broader initiatives may be relevant to NDS members.
Particularly welcome is the major investment of $1.6 billion to double the number of students with disability receiving extra educational support, to 55,000. Funding will extend a current pilot to students previously ineligible for targeted support, including children with autism, dyslexia or complex behaviours. This investment is expected to create 1,730 jobs by 2025 and includes $102.8 million to build the skills and knowledge of staff delivering inclusive education. In addition, the Impact 21 program will create new employment pathways for people with an intellectual disability by developing work-ready skills in secondary school and tailoring roles and support in collaboration with employers.
