Vic COVID-19 Update: some face mask restrictions relaxed
19/03/2021
The fact sheet for community services covered by care facilities directions dated 18 March contains changes to PPE requirements.
Previously, face masks were required to be worn inside at all times. The updated restrictions now only call for all workers, contractors and volunteers to wear surgical face masks:
- In any indoor space that is accessible to residents or visitors
- In all environments where they may have face-to-face contact with residents or visitors
Face masks are no longer required in non-clinical areas such as offices and non-public areas where physical distancing can be maintained.
DFFH frequently update their COVID-19 guidance and providers are encouraged to regularly check the Victorian Coronavirus website for the latest advice.

Vaccine rollout planning data collection
Disability group accommodation providers are reminded to complete or update the online data collection form. This data collection, established by the Department of Social Services is critical to inform the planning of the phase 1A vaccine rollout. The data collection is ongoing, and the form is available via a link as well as on the vaccine page of NDS’s COVID-19 hub.
Survey for disability support workers
Providers are encouraged to share with their staff Melbourne University’s vaccine survey for disability support workers, to help understand the factors most likely to influence their decisions about participating in the roll-out.
The University will use the results to assist disability organisations and governments to effectively communicate the benefits of COVID-19 vaccinations in ways that suit workers’ needs.
