Register your interest to participate in WA Container Deposit Scheme
NDS supports the recent announcement from WA Environment Minister Stephen Dawson that Western Australia will be launching the new Container Deposit Scheme (CDS) on 2 June 2020.
'Containers for Change' will provide a 10-cent refund for every eligible beverage container.
Two key objectives of the CDS are to:
- provide opportunities for social enterprise, and benefits for community organisations through participation; and
- help create 500 jobs across the state, including supporting the employment of people with disability and the long-term unemployed.
The CDS will be coordinated by not-for-profit organisation WA Return Recycle Renew Limited (WARRRL).
To support the CDS objectives, all interested organisations - including charities, not-for-profit organisations, and disability services - are encouraged to visit the Department of Water and Environmental Regulation website and register their interest in participating in the scheme.
Once your organisation has registered, the scheme coordinator will ensure you receive all relevant updates regarding the establishment of the container collection network, including the application process. Registration is a pre-requisite to applying to establish a Refund Point.
The WARRRL website - containing all the information needed to consider how to participate in the scheme - is now available at www.wareturnrecyclerenew.com.au.
A webinar is planned to provide a more detailed overview of options to participate in the scheme, and will include a live Q&A session. Members will be notified of webinar details when they become available.
