Providers urged to review their insurance coverage as they transition to NDIS

The Victorian Managed Insurance Authority (VMIA) currently provides insurance coverage for eligible disability and other community service organisations funded by Victorian state government departments.The transition to NDIS funding is resulting in some providers of disability services and Mental Health Community Support Services no longer meeting the eligibility requirements for VMIA coverage.

To be eligible for VMIA insurance, organisations need:

NDS acknowledges that withdrawal of VMIA insurance represents a significant potential cost impost for many NDS members. In response to representations made by NDS, DHHS is providing the option for Community Service Organisations (CSOs) to remain insured under the VMIA's CSO Program for 12 months after their funding agreement with Victoria has expired. It is noted that if providers continue to support individuals not eligible for NDIS but covered by Victorian continuity of support funding arrangements, or provide other Victorian government funded programs, they will remain eligible for VMIA insurance.
