Pricing win as increases for short term accommodation announced
Following the NDIA's announcement last week, new prices for short term accommodation have been released. The result is a big win for the sector.
The increases are substantial, reflecting the higher costs of employing staff on weekends and public holidays and of supporting people with more complex needs.
As seen below, new price limits have been set for support ratios of: 1 staff member to 4 participants; 1 to 2; and 1 to 1 (for people with the most complex needs). These prices are also adjusted for delivery on a Saturday, Sunday and Public Holiday.
New price limits per night for Short Term Accommodation (effective 30 October):
|Current Price||Accommodation||Support||New Price Limit|
assumes 24-hour care at a ratio of 1 staff : 4 participants
assumes 24-hour care at a ratio of 1 staff : 2 participants
1 to 1 Support
assumes 24-hour care at a ratio of 1 staff : 1 participant
NDS thanks members who have been crucial in providing evidence to support our pricing negotiations with the Agency. We commend the NDIA for its willingness to respond to ensure these much needed supports will be delivered to NDIS participants.
We hope evidence will drive the approach to the current Independent Pricing Review being undertaken by McKinsey & Company. Letting the delivery of other supports get to crisis point before price adjustments are made is unreasonable and unsustainable.
The NDIA will shortly publish an updated price guide and will work with providers, participants and families to understand the changes to price limits. Where necessary, funding in participant plans will be increased. Service providers are likely to need to adjust service agreements and service bookings for these supports.
