NSW Interim Restrictive Practice Authorisation process extended
19/06/2020
Under the NDIS Quality and Safeguarding Framework, the NSW Government is responsible for the regulation of restrictive practices in relation to NSW participants in the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS). An interim approach was introduced in July 2018 for 2 years with a long term process due to be implemented from 1 July 2020.
The NSW Government consulted with the sector mid 2019 and have advised that a report synthesising the key themes and findings will be released soon. NDS in partnership with members participated in this consultation. Our submission can be found here: NDS Submission: NSW Government’s Review of RPA 2019
The NSW Government has announced that this interim approach will be extended until early 2021 to enable further consultation and planning with the sector around the new model.
Providers should expect further communication with regards to the longer term model in July 2020.
Information relating to the restrictive practice authorisation process can be found here: Restrictive Practices Authorisation Portal
NDS in partnership with DCJ also recently hosted a webinar exploring the challenges of meeting the needs of participants with behaviour support needs in the COVID-19 environment.
