The Australian Industry and Skills Committee (AISC) recently established the first Disability Support Industry Reference Committee (IRC), which will provide advice on the development of national VET sector training for the disability industry. The AISC is seeking nominations for five membership positions on the Disability Support IRC. As part of its strong commitment to quality education that provides a trained and job-ready disability workforce, NDS helped establish the IRC and is a founding member. David Moody, NDS Acting CEO, said, “It’s a great win for the industry that Will Kestin, NDS Tasmanian State Manager and Tasmanian Representative on the AISC, has worked so closely with the AISC to establish this sector-specific advisory committee. It is a first for our industry.”The final structure and membership of the Disability Support IRC reflects public feedback on an earlier draft structure. The name of the IRC was changed from ‘Disability Care’ to ‘Disability Support’ to better reflect the purpose of the industry’s workforce and the support it provides to individuals living with disability. The Disability Support IRC will be responsible for reviewing and updating national training package qualifications, skill sets and units of competency needed by the disability support sector workforce. The IRC will work closely with providers, industry stakeholders and individuals to enhance the skills of the current and future workforce.IRC positions open for nomination are:

These positions will join those representatives already confirmed by the AISC as members of the IRC. The full IRC membership is available on the AISC website.Nominations for the unfilled positions on the Disability Support IRC may be submitted via the Disability Support Industry Reference Committee website by COB Tuesday, 23 April 2019.
