The Sector Engagement has had a busy month in April completing the NDIS Implementation Series in Wimmera South West, Ovens Murray, Inner Gippsland and Inner and Outer East Melbourne, whilst simultaneously commencing the NDIS Readiness Series in the new roll-out sites of Southern Melbourne, Western Melbourne and Brimbank Melbourne.

The completion of the NDIS Implementation Series in the five roll-out regions above demonstrated the commitment from disability service organisations across Victoria to actively engage with the fundamental organisational and operational changes required by the NDIS. It was inspiring to hear first-hand accounts of disability service organisations' growing knowledge and understanding of the Scheme, in addition to the positive outcomes it’s had for participants they were supporting. However, disability service organisations at these sessions also highlighted that administrative and financial pressures continue to be a key transition challenge across the sector – a fact acknowledged by the recent McKinsey and Co. Independent Pricing Review.

The first round of NDIS Readiness Workshops in Southern Melbourne, Western Melbourne and Brimbank Melton highlighted the large number of disability service organisations in these regions currently supporting NDIS participants. Many of the participants have been early entrants into the Scheme or have moved from earlier roll-out sites. NDS also noted that there were a number of new disability service organisations at these workshops who will be providing disability supports in the region for the first time. NDIS Readiness Surveys were conducted at each session to gauge the general level of NDIS knowledge, which will inform the development of the Readiness Series moving forward. NDS wishes to remind disability service organisations that the NDIS Readiness Workshops are targeted at providers who are transitioning into the Scheme and require further information and guidance on NDIS operations.

For disability service organisations who are now in full operation under the NDIS and want to share practice advice with others we recommend engaging in our Professional Communities of Practices which provide a platform to discuss sector issues and NDIS transition experience in more specific detail.
