Knowing how to respond to abuse and neglect is critical to supporting people with disability to be safe. Learn how to do this correctly with the new series of Responding to Abuse resources from Zero Tolerance – the NDS initiative assisting service providers to safeguard the rights of the people they support.

Responding to Abuse is a set of short films and an accompanying guide to help frontline disability workers to respond quickly and appropriately to abuse, violence and neglect of people they support.

The important resource includes an introductory video and seven themed films covering the topics:

  • Recognising early warning signs
  • Being a bystander
  • Understanding trauma
  • A ‘safety-first’ approach
  • Responding to a disclosure
  • Preserving evidence
  • The role of supervisors and managers

The films were funded by the NSW Government Industry Development Fund and developed with the NSW Ombudsman, NSW CID and the Community Disability Alliance Hunter as well as representatives from NSW service providers.
