A new Victorian Disability Advisory Council has been appointed to continue providing independent advice to government about the significant issues impacting Victorians with disability.

The Council is a legislated body under the Disability Act 2006 and provides independent policy and strategy advice to the Minister for Disability, Ageing and Carers to increase the inclusion and participation of people with disability in the Victorian community.

The new appointees will serve until July 2025, and will play a key role in advising on the implementation of Inclusive Victoria, the state disability plan for 2022-26.

The new appointees bring a wide range of lived experience of disability and expertise in inclusion – including advocacy, policy and program delivery.

NDS welcomes the broad representation on the Council, with the Council comprising of more than fifty per cent women as well as representatives from Aboriginal, LGBTIQ+, youth, carers, culturally diverse and regional Victorians.

The outgoing Council members have been recognised by the Victorian Government for their hard work and dedication throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, which was instrumental in supporting Victorians with disability throughout a significantly challenging period.
