New arrangements for how NDIS and health services will work together

Two hands shaking each other

At Friday’s Disability Reform Council meeting, Ministers agreed on substantial changes to how supports for NDIS participants with regular and ongoing disability-related health supports will be provided and funded. This clarity on the interface between health and the NDIS is welcome.

From October, the following disability-related health supports will be available under the NDIS:

Exclusions that remain the responsibility of the health sector include the diagnosis, early intervention and treatment of health conditions; care, treatment or surgery for an acute illness or injury (including rehabilitation); sub-acute care including palliative care (with the exception of supports that are already provided for in a participant’s plan); and items and services covered by Medicare and the PBS.
