NDS welcomes more support for carers
National Disability Services (NDS), Australia’s peak body for disability service providers, has welcomed the announcement this week by the Minister for Families and Social Services, Senator Anne Ruston, of increased support for Australia’s 2.7 million carers.
NDS Acting CEO, David Moody, said “Senator Ruston’s announcement today of a new service delivery model and significant funding to support those carers who play a crucial role in the lives of many people with disability, will be welcomed by all disability service providers.”
We hope the new Regional Carer Gateways will assist people with disability, their families and supporters to better navigate the NDIS and maximise the benefits they are able to access under the Scheme as a result,” he said
“From the time it started, the NDIS was always designed to rely, at least in part, on informal and voluntary support”, Mr Moody said. “We know from NDIS data that those who are supported to advocate for services are more likely to get them.”
Funding on this scale can be expected to make a real difference in the lives of people with disability and those who care for and support them”.
