NDS WA 2018-19 Pre-Budget Submission released
NDS in WA officially launched and presented its 2018-19 Pre-Budget Submission (PBS) to Mr Reece Whitby MLA, Parliamentary Secretary to the Treasurer and Minister for Disability Services, today.
The NDS WA PBS is the policy centrepiece for state-level disability advocacy and is instrumental in identifying areas of critical need and the investment required to continue to deliver a comprehensive and holistic service system for people with disability in WA.
This year's PBS identifies four areas that require attention by the State Government. They are to:
- Deliver a sustainable NDIS;
- Plan for the future NDIS market;
- Strengthen Government’s NDIS market stewardship; and
- Drive better outcomes under the National Disability Strategy.
To achieve these outcomes, the PBS calls for the Government to fund the WA Disability Services Industry Plan to assist with NDIS transition and develop an overarching State Disability Strategy - a disability roadmap to direct and support the work of the State Government and sector.
This will ensure that the NDIS works in partnership with other state-controlled services to deliver good policy outcomes in the key areas of the National Disability Strategy so that people with disability continue to receive quality support and services, regardless of their eligibility for the NDIS.
NDS WA State Manager Julie Waylen said, “As the peak organisation for non-government disability service providers in WA, NDS WA represents the views of its members to influence and support the Government of Western Australia to provide a policy environment that is responsive to the needs of people with disability and their service providers.”
“I would like to acknowledge the important participation by our members in informing and shaping the priorities and recommendations contained in this year’s PBS. In particular, thank you to the NDS WA State Committee and six Sub-Committees who have generously tested, reflected and refined the priorities and recommendations,” she said.
NDS is highly committed to strengthening our partnership approach with the McGowan Government and working with people with disability, their families and carers to maximise every opportunity to deliver quality services and support for people with disability to live the life they choose. We support a strong solutions approach and bring a willingness to adapt, which is fundamental especially in the current financial environment.
This year’s PBS is presented in two formats, the full PBS and a highlights publication.
