National Disability Services (NDS) supports the continued funding of disability advocacy services in NSW. Advocacy services are vital in ensuring people with disability are heard and supported to receive fair and inclusive treatment in all aspects of their lives.

Traditionally, state and federal governments have allocated funds to allow these important services to operate. It was never intended that the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) would fund these services.

Other state governments and the federal government have indicated their intention to uphold their responsibility by continuing to fund advocacy organisations. This should be no different in New South Wales.

At this time of significant change for the disability sector, advocacy services for people with disability are more crucial than ever. The NSW Government must ensure disability advocacy services are continued.
