New ILC grant round aims to boost employment for people with disability

The NDIA has announced a new Information, Linkages and Capacity Building grant round, designed to increase employment opportunities for people with disability.

Welcome to the Monthly Wrap - where we highlight 20 things that NDS has done in the past month to support the sector. This month, top picks include NDS presenting evidence to a Federal Parliamentary Committee inquiry on the NDIS, releasing a new policy paper on employment support, and hosting various forums for member learning - including a webinar on Quality and Safeguarding. Explore below:

  1. Welcomed Social Services Minister Dan Tehan’s announcement of funding for supported employment and his presentation of Excellence Awards at NDS’s Disability at Work Conference
  2. Presented evidence to a Federal Parliamentary Committee inquiry on the risk of market failure to the NDIS
  3. Secured a side deed to support members with leasing arrangements for properties under licence from the NSW Government, and got the NDIA to review pricing for innovative individual accommodation options in WA
  4. Released a draft policy paper on how the NDIS can enhance employment support for people with disability
  5. Commenced work on designing a new wage assessment method for supported employment
  6. Hosted a member webinar on quality and safeguarding with 420 participants; held a half day seminar in South Australia with 109 attendees; and commented on draft NDIS Quality and Safeguarding Rules
  7. Advised the current review of the National Disability Strategy about advancing the rights and inclusion of people with disability
  8. Changed the proposed new restriction on wage subsidies which would have disadvantaged Disability Employment Service providers
  9. Continued to support NDS members in our campaign against the Victorian Government’s Long Service Benefits Portability Scheme
  10. Helped resolve NDIS payment delays experienced by several members
  11. Provided NDS’s policy paper ‘Getting Transport on Track’ to the Joint Parliamentary Standing Committee on the NDIS: PDF | Word
  12. Commented in the media about NDIS plan reviews, specialist disability accommodation and pricing
  13. Lobbied the NT Government for formal recognition of a Minister for Disability, in line with their election commitment
  14. Met with the NDIA CEO and other senior NDIA personnel to discuss issues of concern to NDS members
  15. Advised members about the new NDIS prices (including through a podcast) and engaged with the NDIA on pricing questions
  16. Convened meetings with NDS’s National Committees on Housing and Support, Open Employment and Disability Enterprises, as well as meetings with NDIS plan managers and Local Area Coordinators
  17. Secured additional funding for WorkAbility Qld
  18. Hosted the NDS Board Summit in Melbourne to assist Boards to get on top of the NDIS and the CEO Forum in Sydney to hear the concerns of members
  19. Tested the NDS Helpdesk for launch in July
  20. Opened registrations for the NDIS Essential Briefings and Outside the Box conference
