As part of our broader advocacy around accessible housing for people with disability, NDS is supporting the Building Better Homes Campaign.

The campaign mission is to ensure minimum accessibility standards are included in the National Building Code, ensuring the Code meets the needs of all Australians.

Early this year, Australian Building Ministers will consider whether mandatory minimum accessibility standards should be included in the National Building Code, which is due to come into effect on 1 September 2021.

With the present shortage of accessible housing, and growing demand, their decision will impact hundreds of thousands of people.

NDS members and other interested stakeholders are invited to support the campaign by taking action in one or more ways:

• Signing a petition that will be presented to the Building Ministers’ Forum at the end of February
• Emailing Building Ministers
• Writing to your local MP
