NDIS Commission provides advice on worker screening checks for employees with disability
11/06/2020
In response to questions raised by members, NDS recently sought advice from the NDIS Commission on whether or not Disability Enterprises are required to obtain worker screening checks for supported employees who receive NDIS services and supports.Â
The Commission has advised that worker screening checks are generally not required for supported employees. However, some supported employees may work in a supervisory role in a Disability Enterprise and therefore are providing NDIS services and supports. In this instance, many Disability Enterprises choose to implement a screening check before adding supervisory responsibilities to a supported employee's role. Information for registered providers on worker screening requirements is available at the NDIS Commission website. Information is also available on interim screening arrangements in place for states and territories. NDS encourages members to ensure that they have sound recruitment policies and procedures in place. It is important to undertake appropriate risk management processes and remember that work health and safety regulations apply across the entire workplace.
