NDIA to contact people with disability in NEMA
The NDIS National Access Team has begun contacting people living in the North East Melbourne Area (NEMA) to gauge their eligibility to become NDIS participants. Telephone calls are being made directly to people with disability and their families. This follows a letter that was sent to prospective participants by the Department of Health and Human Services earlier this year, and is a key activity for the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) to assist people to transition into the scheme.
NDS is aware that some families have been concerned about receiving these calls as they have not understood their context. The NDIA has advised us that it is making these calls, and has asked providers to assist in ensuring their clients know to expect this call.
People with disability or families who receive a call of this nature and have any concerns are invited to contact the NDIS National Access Team directly on 1800 800 110.
Support Coordination market sounding
The NDIA is also keen to engage with providers operating in NEMA that have the capability to provide Support Coordination to NDIS participants with high and complex needs entering the scheme for the first time. There is an opportunity for these providers to work directly with new participants to coordinate and implement their first NDIS Plan.
Registered providers of NDIS supports are invited to attend an information session on Monday 16 May at 10am in Preston. Registration for this session is being managed by the NDIS Victoria North Engagement Team on or 03 5224 5430.
