Medication Management Framework undergoes changes on administration of narcotic substances

The Disability and Community Services team has advised NDS of changes to the Medication Management Framework following an amendment to the Poisons Regulations 2008. The amendment allows disability support workers to assist with self-administration of narcotic substances under certain circumstances.

Paragraph 95AA is a new insertion in the Poisons Regulations 2008, and specifically discusses the role of disability support workers (DSWs) in assisting another person to self-administer a narcotic substance. This means that DSWs who are employed by a disability services program that is approved or funded by the Department can assist another person to self-administer a narcotic substance if:
