Major win for sector as funding for NSW disability advocacy services announced
In a major win for the disability sector, the NSW government has reversed its decision to cut funding for disability advocacy services. After previously ruling out maintaining funding for advocacy groups after it transfers disability services spending to the NDIS in July, the NSW Government has announced it will now give up to $26M to disability advocacy services until 2020.
NDS welcomes the decision and commends the NSW Government for continuing to fund disability advocacy services. This decision will enable advocacy services to continue supporting people with disability to receive fair and inclusive treatment in all aspects of their lives. The state government’s decision shows the sector’s concerns have been heard – and actioned.
“During a time of major change for people with disability, the NSW Government is committed to making the transition to the NDIS as smooth as possible,” said the NSW premier, Gladys Berejiklian.
NDS congratulates the Stand By Me campaign which NDS and many of our members supported.
