The NDS WA Lunch in celebration of International Day of People with Disability (IDPwD) is just over a month away. If you haven’t already purchased your tickets, get in quickly - there are limited tickets left!

Hosted by NDS, this exciting event celebrates the achievements of West Australians with disability and will be officially opened by the Hon. Stephen Dawson, MLC Minister for Disability Services.

This year, the Lunch will have a focus on inclusion, employment and strengths-based approaches. It will include a Marketplace showcasing local enterprises and micro-enterprises that provide sustainable and meaningful work for people with disability.

International Day of People with Disability is a United Nations-sanctioned day that is celebrated across the globe. It aims to increase public awareness, understanding and acceptance of people with disability and celebrate the achievements and contributions of people with disability.

The 2018 United Nations theme for IDPwD is ‘Empowering persons with disabilities and ensuring inclusiveness and equality’. The core principles of this theme are to ‘leave no one behind’ and empower people with disability to be active contributors of society.

At a local level, this aligns with ‘Inclusive WA’, the key deliverable that was outlined in the NDS WA 2019-20 Pre-Budget Submission. This highlights the need for an overarching vision for disability in WA that can be achieved through a State Disability Plan that enables a smooth and successful NDIS transition and supports people with disability to live satisfying lives through effective implementation of the National Disability Strategy.

NDS members receive a 10 per cent discount on ticket prices to the Lunch. They are encouraged to bring along their corporate and business networks in the spirit of working together to promote understanding and awareness, and create a welcoming community for all.
