State and territory governments provide assistance to some children and young people with disability to travel to and from school. Eligibility for this assistance varies, as does the level and type of assistance. An inquiry is now underway as to how supported school transport should be provided for children who are NDIS participants.

A discussion paper outlines two broad options:

According to the paper, one benefit of a new model would be that "participants and their families may choose to use registered or unregistered transport providers". That is not a view we support. At a minimum, any person paid to transport children with disability to school should have to meet the new NDIS worker screening check.
