Fair Work Commission holds SES Award conference with interested parties

The Fair Work Commission (FWC) held a conference yesterday with interested parties, including NDS regarding follow-up actions from the 20 December 2019 SES Award Review hearing.Discussion continued on the Classification descriptors for grades 4-7. The Australian Council of Trade Unions (ACTU) raised concerns about inconsistencies between the minimum mandatory requirements in the current and proposed SES Awards and tabled proposed alternative wording.  Australian Business Lawyers and Associates (ABLA), and the ACTU will hold further discussions and submit agreed wording to the full bench within 2 weeks.The definition of a “sequential action” in the new Grades A and B is still to be finalised. Because this is a central component of the proposed wage determination mechanism, it is vital that the definition is clear and not open to interpretation. The FWC granted ABLA and the employer parties, including NDS, a further two weeks to finalise and submit the proposed wording. All parties endorsed a modified timetable to design, test, evaluate and introduce the proposed new wage determination mechanism.
